On Wednesday February 4th 2015, the Irish Arts Center in Manhattan will play host to the screening of The Sligo Mastersdocumentary film. This one-hour factual documentary focusses on the lives of three of the great Sligo fiddle players Michael Coleman, James Morrison and Paddy Killoran, who all lived the greater parts of their lives in New York. It is a special moment for the producers of the film to return to the city for these premiere screenings.
The evening will begin with the screening of the film itself, followed by a Q&A session with the crew and production team of The Sligo Masters, and the launch of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann will take place after that. To end the evening, a music session will take place at The Landmark Tavern in Manhattan. Patrons are encouraged to buy their tickets early from the IAC as it's looking likely that the screening will be a full house. Tickets $12/10.
On Thursday, February 5th, The Sligo Masters will be screened at the Irish Consulate in New York as part of a celebration of Irish culture and the launch of an Irish photographic exhibition at the Consulate. The music session afterwards is at O'Flanagan's Bar in the city. Attendance at the Consulate is by invitation only, but all are welcome to the session afterwards, most of all musicians, who are invited to bring your instruments.
On Friday, February 6th, the film will receive its final screening of this short run at Rory Dolan's pub in Yonkers. Here, the New York-Sligo Association will host the evening, and the great and the good of New York music circles are expected to attend for what could be a very good (and very late!) night of music. All welcome, tickets $10 at the door, with under 16s free.
